ITAM’s drone team managed to stand out as the best mexican team and took an impressive fourth place worldwide in a prestigious international competition celebrated in the Bristol Robotic Laboratories, as part of the international Micro Air Vehicle Conference & Competition (IMAV). The event gathered outstanding national and international research centers, consolidating it’s reputation as one of the most demanding and prestigious events in the sector.

The team that represented ITAM in Bristol was formed by Miguel Trujillo, student of the Computing Engineering Undergraduate Program at ITAM and by Marco Ramirez, professor of the Division of Engineering. The team was honored with the award given by the judges, recognition that highlights that they were the team that achieved all the required objectives in each of the competition's tests. This achievement is a reflection of the effort, creativity and high academic level of ITAM’s representatives, who competed side by side against global renowned institutions.

The drone project with which they participated in the competition was also the thesis subject of Miguel Trujillo, who started his research using a commercial drone as a base. Starting with their knowledge and creativity, Miguel modified it to make it more stable and efficient, adding an innovative system he developed to optimize its control and allow it to perform complex tasks with bigger precision. Marco, his professor and mentor, identified from the beginning his talent and Miguel’s potential in this field, giving him key advice to perfect his research. Together they took this project to the international competition celebrated in Bristol, where they showed the strength and impact of the collaborative work between ITAM students and professors.
