Dr. Ernesto Pérez Chavela is recognized as Emeritus Researcher of the National System of Researchers.

We are very proud to congratulate Dr. Ernesto Pérez Chavela, professor of the Department of Mathematics at ITAM, for having obtained the distinction of Emeritus Researcher of the National System of Researchers (SNI) of the National Council of Science and Technology (Conacyt).

Dr. Ernesto Pérez Chavela received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from the Faculty of Sciences of the National Autonomous University of Mexico and his Ph.D. from the Autonomous Metropolitan University-Iztapalapa in October 1991. After that, he did postdoctoral studies at Northwestern University (USA). Currently, he is a full time Professor attached to the Department of Mathematics at ITAM and holds the position of Associate Professor at the University of Victoria, Canada.

His areas of interest are: Hamiltonian Dynamical Systems, Celestial Mechanics and Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations, areas where he has about 100 research papers published in high impact international journals. He has presented his work in the main international congresses of the specialty, in some of them as a plenary lecturer. In recent years, he has also been dedicated to the popularization of science, giving lectures in several places in Mexico and some abroad. He has written 9 popular science articles and 3 teaching articles.

Dr. Pérez Chavela has supervised 5 bachelor's, 9 master's and 7 doctoral thesis. From August 1999 to August 2003 he was Head of the Mathematics Department at UAM-Iztapalapa, he has participated in the commission for the awarding of the National Prize of Sciences and Arts. He actively participates in the editorial committee of several international research journals, and in one of divulgation. He has organized several international congresses in Mexico and abroad, the proceedings of these events have been published as special issues of prestigious journals of international circulation. He has served as a referee for the main international journals covering topics in his specialty. In addition, he is a member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences and as of January 1, 2023, Emeritus Researcher of the SNI.
