
The Banamex Prize for Economics (Premio Citibanamex de Economía) is the most important award for economic science in Mexico, awarded annually by Grupo Financiero Banamex for the best research on the analysis and solution of Mexico's economic problems. The jury is made up of the governor of the Bank of Mexico, the secretary of Finance and Public Credit, the secretary of Economy, the director of the Center for Economic Studies of the Private Sector, as well as the directors of the economics departments and schools of the Institute Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico, the National Autonomous University of Mexico, the Autonomous University of Nuevo León and other highly prestigious universities.
In the category of research papers, a prize of 500,000 pesos was awarded to the first place; the second place was declared deserted; and two honorable mentions were awarded. In the bachelor's thesis category, first place received 200,000; the second 150,000 and two honorable mentions were also awarded.
The first place in the category of research work went to Enrique Seira and Diego Javier Jiménez Hernández, with the work “Should the government sell products? Evidence from the Mexican milk market”.
