
ITAM's Law undergradute program Alumni, Beatriz Magaloni, was awarded with The Stockholm Prize in Criminology for her research, providing evidence that Police Organizations are vulnerable to populist demands for harsh policing methods that violate the rule of law and, ultimately, do not reduce but increase violence in society.
The Stockholm Prize in Criminology is an award given for outstanding achievement in criminological research or the application of research findings in the reduction of crime and the advancement of human rights.
Beatriz Magaloni is a professor at the Department of Political Science at Stanford University and is a member of the Faculty for International Development. Her research focuses on governance, poverty reduction, electoral clientelism, the provision of public goods, criminal violence, the politics of authoritarian regimes, democratization and the dynamics of protest.
Her work has appeared in the American Journal of Political Science, World Development, Comparative Political Studies, Annual Review of Political Science, Latin American Research Review, Journal of Theoretical Politics and other journals.
