Alejandro Díaz de León Carrillo appointed new Governor of Bank of Mexico

Congratulations to Mr. Alejandro Díaz de León, alumnus of the undergraduate program in economics, for his appointment as Governor of Bank of Mexico. Following Miguel Mancera Aguayo, Guillermo Ortiz Martínez, and Agustín Carstens Carstens, Mr. Diaz will be the fourth governor of Banxico since 1994, when it became an autonomous institution.

During his career in the public sector, he has worked more than 15 years at the Bank of Mexico. Then, he served as  Head of the Public Credit Unit of the Secretary of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), a position he left in order to serve as the General Director of Banco de Comercio Exterior (BANCOMEXT).  He was appointed Vice Governor of Bank of Mexico at the beginning of this year.

In 2016, he was recognized by ITAM with the award “Professional Merit in the Public Sector.”  Furthermore, he has worked at ITAM as a professor in our undergraduate program in economics.
