With the Propel Modern Foods initiative, originally named AhDiablo, the ITAM team made up of students Joel González (Bachelor's in Economics), Jayat González (Bachelor's in Actuary and Applied Mathematics) and Damián Tapia (Bachelor's in Administration), obtained the Hult recognition Prize 2021 at national and international level.

Propel Modern Foods began as a startup that had the objective of developing a new strategy in the fishing sector, with it, the ITAM students managed to create a demand for products made with invasive species, giving them an economic value that doubles the income of small-scale fishermen and helps regenerate the environment. This helped garner attention and LOIs from sustainable fish retailers and supermarket chains, as well as senators who granted them a letter of national interest.

The team took this idea to the Hult Prize 2021 accelerator program in the UK, where they placed #1 in the semi-final stage, defeating over 70,000 startups from around the world.

"We were selected as one of the 7 finalists for the Hult Prize, and we will present our new idea at the UN Headquarters in New York during September 2022. With the help of small-scale fishing cooperatives we commercialize local and invasive fish species, making use of technology such as blockchain to make the fishing process more efficient, sustainable and transparent".

We reiterate the pride on the part of our community for having such distinguished members in their social and environmental sense!
